Soviet Navy Ensign Flag with Hammer, Sickle and Star — White and Blue, Appliqué Construction
A large two-sided naval ensign constructed from off-white/cream cotton fabric with a vertical blue stripe along the hoist edge. Both faces carry appliquéd red felt or woven fabric cut-outs depicting a hammer and sickle and a five-pointed star, positioned on opposite halves of the flag on each side. The appliqué pieces are stitched around their edges and show some lifting and fraying at the borders. The hoist is reinforced with a natural-coloured linen or canvas heading, machine-stitched, with a braided rope loop at one corner for attachment. The reverse of the heading bears a stencilled Cyrillic and numeric marking reading 'ГОТ 84998-8Г' in red ink. The white field shows fold creases and light soiling; no tears visible.
