The photograph shows two rapier swept-hilt cup guards displayed side by side; the item catalogued here is the right-hand guard, which features panels of red leather or painted material, a tan/gold metal mesh panel at the top, and a black band around the lower rim, all divided by silver-toned metal bars. The left guard (green and cream with a black band) appears in the same photograph for comparison but is a separate item. The catalogued guard has a swept metal framework with a small ring quillon visible at the lower edge and a protruding tang or blade stub at the top; the red panels show surface scuffing and staining.
